Located on the outskirts of Cairns central business district 1 km (0.6 miles) from the city centre, Rydges Tradewinds is constructed in a u-shaped design, hugging an expansive walk-in lagoon pool with views across to The Esplanade promenade, tidal wetlands, and Coral Sea.

The hotel spans a block from The Esplanade through to Abbott Street, with the main lobby area and valet parking more easily accessed via the latter. On site is a full service health spa, Spa by the Sea, in addition to an al fresco bar and brasserie-style restaurant, tour desk with experienced staff, business centre with four workstations, high-speed and wireless Internet access, guest laundry, complimentary scheduled shuttle service to the city, and five function rooms. Smoking is permitted (outside) in the gardens and on guestroom balconies.

Some 200 metres away is Muddy’s Playground and approximately 0.5 km (0.3 miles) away is a life-saver-patrolled artificial beach and pool positioned on the waterfront. The popular 5 km seafront boardwalk may be accessed opposite the hotel.
